JA Canada

Historica makes an annual donation to JA Canada. Since 1955, JA Canada has educated and inspired over 5 million Canadian youth. Each year, over 200,000 Canadian students participate in their financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship programs.

Participating in JA programs transforms students and gives them the knowledge and confidence needed to succeed in school, business, and life. Studies have shown that today’s most in-demand jobs didn’t exist ten years ago. JA prepares students to succeed in tomorrow’s careers, solve tomorrow’s challenges and launch businesses that create tomorrow’s jobs.

  • Saint John Y camp donations
  • Scholarships

Operation Feed SJ

In February of 2021, Gordon started his goal to feed 50 families per month using food bags, beginning at St. John the Baptist School and a connection he made through a friend there. Prince Charles School was the second in March, with the organization now working on helping the third school.
Each bag consists of groceries to feed three people with three meals daily for a week. Each focuses on non-perishable food items while following Canada’s Food Guide as much as possible.

IWK Toy Drive

IWK

Keith & Margot (Owners of Historica) host an annual toy drive during the Christmas Holidays in support of the IWK. To honor the memory of Margot’s sister, Mary Jane McLaughlin. On September 15th, 2006, Dr. Mary-Jane McLaughlin passed away. Mary-Jane was continuing her medical training in Cleveland, Ohio, and had planned to return to Halifax to work at the IWK Hospital. Each year the team collects new, unwrapped toys and cash donations. These donations, along with others, allow Santa Claus to make a special visit to the hospital to give out toys to the young patients who can’t go home for Christmas. Several of these toys will be used in the psychiatric ward at the IWK. This wonderful group of individuals received an IWK Board Award of Community Excellence for this extremely successful fundraiser. The Historica Helps Community is proud to support this wonderful cause.
